North Bend looking to fill two new City Council seats
September 2nd, 2009 at Wed, 2nd, 2009 at 2:02 pm by danielcatchpoleNorth Bend is seeking applicants to fill two new City Council seats which have to be added since the city added 888 residents — pushing its population past 5,000 — when it annexed land in July. The seats have to be filled before the state Office of Financial Management census in 2010.
The new council members, who will bring the total number of seats up to seven, are scheduled to be appointed at the council’s Nov. 17 meeting.
Final candidates for interviews will be selected at the previous meeting on Oct. 20, and will be interviewed during the council’s open meeting on Nov. 17.
The biggest issue facing the City Council right now is a proposal to amend development regulations to allow a hotel to be built by Interstate 90’s Exit 31. The new council members could be appointed before the issue is resolved.
Applicants must be U.S. Citizens, at least 18 years of age, registered voters and who have lived within
the City limits, including newly annexed areas of North Bend for at least one year prior to the date of
appointment. The successful applicant will be required to file financial affairs statements with the
Washington State Public Disclosure Commission.
Applications must include a completed City of North Bend Councilmember Application form (available
by emailing cherylp@ci.north-bend.wa.us) and a resume outlining applicable professional background
and community experience. The application deadline is October 9, 2009 (postmarks accepted).
